How much life insurance should one have?
This is a personal question and varies from person to person. We will do a proper Financial Needs Analysis for you to determine exactly how much life cover you should have.
Do I have to take out Credit Life Insurance from the bank
No. By law you are not compelled to.............
What should I be spending on my insurance?
That is a very difficult question to answer without a full financial analysis. It depends on life style, affordability, risk profile etc etc.
What is shocking to see is that when people either do not make provision or make too little provision for something happening to them, they are always cross at themselves for taking either too long, or for thinking that it would not happen to them and usually ends up blaming their adviser for not forcing them to take out enough cover... which is a far cry from an advisor's duty to his client.
Take care to make enough provision so that you and your family's needs will be provided for, in case something happens to you!!
My wife is a stay at home mom, do I need to insure her life?
YES!!! If your wife is either working and earning an income or not, you have a partnership that you need to insure. Just think of what it will cost if you had to pay some-one to do all the things she is currently doing...not only the money, but also the time.
To answer your question better, just send your wife on a week long holiday, and see how you cope with work, house chores, the kids, your social life and then you decide how you would feel if she is never coming back, or sometimes even worse, if you still have to take care of her as well after disability??
Althouogh I earn an income, we mainly live off my husbands income:) Do I need to provide for retirement!
I hope you spoil him with expensive gifts and golfing equipment!!
Seriously, yes you do need to provide for retirement for yourself as well.
If in doubt, if you need to provide for yourself, always remind yourself of the divorce rate in SA!!
This doesn't mean that you cannot combine or integrate your retirement planning with that of your husband. You guys have the ideal opportunity to get ahead of the rest!! Use it!!
No one ever complains of having too much retirement provision!! But too little, is a growing problem in SA.
